Showing Love in Small Ways

This morning, I woke up to my husband pulling the blanket over my feet and tucking them in, and I can’t tell you how loved that small act made me feel. Often, it’s the small ways where I feel loved the most. A kiss on the forehead, a squeeze of the hand, a glass of water delivered with the reminder to drink enough, or, like this morning, having my feet tucked in, are all small things that help me to feel big loved by my husband.

But I don’t think small acts of love are just for romantic partners.

You can show your children love in small ways that matter greatly to them, like showing interest in what interests them, a special snack provided without being asked, a cup of tea or bowl of soup when they don’t feel well, or hugs for no reason other than they’re your child, and you love them.

Your friends and can greatly benefit from a small gesture that shows your love and care for them. There’s a loneliness and lack of connection plaguing the world right now, and honestly, we don’t know who’s feeling it. Reach out to your loved ones. Text them that you’re just thinking about them, send them a flower to work, buy them their favorite candy, hug them, tell them you love them.

Show kindness to strangers because you never know what someone is going through. Smile, hold doors, thank servers or cashiers, just do small things day to day in your everyday life to add a little brightness to the world.

When you interact online, do your best to show kindness, to give the benefit of the doubt, to find similarities rather than differences. Choose love over hate.

Love can come in very small packages that make a huge difference in someone’s life.  Having my feet tucked in made me feel so special and loved, and it happened because my husband took one minute out of his day to show me he cares. It was a reminder that we can all spare a minute to show love and care to someone else.

What small act of kindness can you do for someone today?
