Cooking Together

I have a love/hate relationship with cooking. I truly love to cook when I have plenty of time or when I want to cook. I also love to try new recipes or put my own spin on one.

The hate part comes from having to cook every single day and frustrations over planning the meals for the week.

Today was a good day in the kitchen. My 18 year old son has been showing more interest in cooking, so today he helped cook supper. He cooked pork chops while I cleaned and chopped mushrooms and onions.  After deglazing the pan, we both kept an eye on the onions and mushrooms as they caramelized, then we made some brown gravy in the pan. We had some leftover mashed potatoes, and we steamed some broccoli.

It was a delicious meal, but what was more enjoyable was spending time with my son. Cooking together turns a mundane chore into quality time with a loved one, and what more could I ask for on a random Thursday?
