Dear Diary, Blah Blah Blah…

Dear Diary (and whoever else just happens to stumble across this blog post), Today was a good day. It didn’t go completely as planned, but that doesn’t change the fact that it was a good day. It was my day and I get to say if it was good or not right? It started out…

black and white barbell

Went to the gym for the first time in a while this morning. I deadlifted and bench pressed, then I enjoyed the water massage chair. It was nothing to write home about (the weights, not the massage chair, the massage chair was glorious.) I went, I picked up heavy things and put them down, then I left. I do feel really good about going.  I’ll have a walk this afternoon. Hope anyone reading this has a wondeful day!

More Than a Mug

“The feel of a perfectly shaped coffee mug as it’s cupped in both hands. Warm. Cozy. Comfort.”, a quote from my about page, in the section about things that bring me joy. It’s a simple thing, but sometimes I think there’s more joy to be squeezed from those little moments that could go unnoticed, except…

A life Well Lived Starts with Letting Go

When people decide they want to change their lives, the first thing most do is start adding good habits. They might start by taking a walk a few times a day or by tracking their water intake. Some people might set a goal to read more often. The specific goal doesn’t really matter, it’s that…

Fall Walk – I match the leaves!

woman with headscarf in front of trees with red, yellow, and green leaves.

I match the changing leaves today! 🙂

I walked by myself this morning. I woke up with swelling in my hands and feet, my legs were pretty sore, and I was later going to walk than I planned to be.

I went anyway.

Today I was reminded of a couple different things, the first is that progress isn’t linear. The hilly one mile walk was harder this time. I didn’t jog at all either, I couldn’t. It was a struggle the whole time. The humidity was high and I could tell the difference. The benches along the way taunted me, but I kept going, slow and steady.

The second thing that I was reminded of is that sometimes God’s plan is different than our own. Toward the end of my walk a lady passed me and I noticed the roasary in her hand. I told her is was beautiful and she said that she prays the roasary when she walks.

I listen to worship music when I walk.

Two women, both walking in a beautiful park, surrounded by leaves changing colors, both of us worshiping in our own way.  It was a beautiful moment, and it made me grateful that I started my walk later and that I hadn’t been able to jog. If any of those variables had been different, I wouldn’t have seen the woman praying her rosary.

Hygge: The Danish Art of a Life Well Lived

How is Hygge Pronounced? Like most pages that mention hygge, I’m going to start by explaining how to say it, because I think understanding the pronunciation will also help you understand the meaning of the word. When I was learning about hygge, I wanted to be able to pronounce it like a native Danish speaker.…

Why I Deleted My Instagram Account

Last night I deleted my Instagram account, not just disabled, but deleted. Technically, it won’t be completely gone until after the waiting period, but there’s no going back for me. Why did I delete my account, you ask? Well, let’s rewind a little. On October 20, 2025, just 17 days ago, I landed on boffosocko.com…

Where the Tide Speaks

This post is part of the November IndieWeb Carnival, hosted by Alex Cirac, and the topic is Cycles and fluctuations. Seasons mark the end and the beginning. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about seasons in nature, life, or even seasons of your favorite TV show. The fact that there is a beginning and an…

I did that!

Woman balancing on a log balancing obstacle.

One mile hilly walk this morning. My son challenged me to do the balance obstacle, and he was joking around because he didn’t think I could or would do it, and honestly, that’s a fair assumption for a lot of reasons (obesity, in my 40s, out of shape…) but the main reason is that I demolished my ankle in 2021 while skateboarding and the injury has not fully healed. I may never get it back the way it was pre-injury, but it is getting stronger, more stable, and I’m trying to trust it more.

The walk itself was a walk/jog. Like last time I jogged the last 30ish yards. This time I added in a jog up a hill at the 1/4 mile mark.

I’m feeling hopeful about where I’m heading.

Walked a Hilly Mile This Morning

I walked a hilly mile this morning with my son at a local park. The trail is a combination of paved areas, gravel, and dirt. There are some hills, but it’s not all hills. My back tightened up at the 1/4 mile mark, but I kept going, and then I jogged the last 30ish yards.  Yay me!

A Blooming Digital Garden

Recently, I discovered a concept that fascinates me: the digital garden, while reading this post about them. Digital Gardens are living websites (or, in my case, a blog post) that grow organically over time by linking notes and ideas together. A regular blog post is written, published, and more often than not, forgotten about. A…

The Online Manifestation of Your Ego

This blog post is an entry into the October 2025 IndieWeb Carnival on the topic of Ego, hosted by Bix. Ego isn’t a monster to be tamed; it’s the mechanism by which we regulate our sense of self. It’s that little whisper that helps us determine our importance, our place in the world, our identity.…
