Day 81 Late Post, Streak Broken, Going Forward

Today is day 82, but this is post 81. I made it 80 days out of 100 without missing my 100 day deadline. I’m writing this post as close to waking up on day 82 as I could, just after making coffee. Actually, it’s just after warming up coffee that I made at 11 pm last night when I woke up to an alarm with the intention of writing this post. Yep, that’s right. I went to bed early and got up to make my deadline because it was important to me.

But last night I was tired, and the words wouldn’t come. No excuses, I should have done the post earlier in the day when the world was quiet.

I had the thought that I should just write one sentence, and technically, my streak would be intact, but that didn’t feel right. This doesn’t either, writing late. So, I guess I shouldn’t have let perfectionism take hold.

But maybe I needed to learn this lesson. To learn that if I want to accomplish something, a habit, a goal, a streak, anything, I need to do it as early in the day as I can, when my resolve is stronger.

There’s this magic time before the sun rises, before those first colors of the day run across the sky, where time stands still, and the words come easier. That’s when I need to write. At least that’s when I need to write for myself.

In the book Miracle Morning, Hal Elrod teaches that having a routine built around specific wellness habits will set the tone for your day and help you create the life that you want. It encourages you to use your morning for affirmations, meditation, exercise, and other habits to start your day in a meaningful way. I love this concept, even if I don’t subscribe to every habit suggested.

Going forward, I’m going to build my miracle (or magic) morning routine, including setting a time aside for writing. I love the early mornings, and I want to start using that time in a way that’s meaningful to me, a way that honors the peace I feel during this time.

As for my 100 day writing challenge, I’m going to continue writing here daily for the rest of the 100 days. One blip isn’t going to make me give up or make me feel bad. I do wish I had kept my not being late streak going, but the all or nothing mindset hasn’t served me well in life.  I am still going to write, and I am still going to celebrate when I reach day 100.

Do you do a miracle (or Magic) morning routine?

Do you write daily? Is it at a specific time?
