Going to the gym and lifting hasn’t been easy lately; it’s like I’ve been walking through quicksand due to illness, migraines, injuries, and lack of motivation. Yes, some of these things are out of my control, but even before the real reasons started, lack of motivation made it easy to skip days or weeks.
But the article about Brian Shaw reminded me of one of my reasons for wanting to lift: bone density. Brian Shaw’s bone density is so high that it’s predicted that there are only 10-20 people in the world who have the bone density that he does. It is simply amazing!
As we get older, our bones lose density, leading to osteoporosis and fractures. These fractures are increasingly dangerous as we age. You can reverse the bone density loss by doing load bearing exercises (lifting weights). It’s one of the best things we can do to protect ourselves as we age.
I’m glad I came across the article about Brian Shaw today. It reminded me how important weight lifting is to me, because I know it will help me become healthy, strong, and it will protect me as I age. It’s time to get back to lifting.
It’s time to feel strong again. Cue the Rocky music!
