Dear December

Dear December,

It’s been ages since we saw each other last, a year to be exact. Here you are again, as steady as can be, punctual, considerate, dependable.

You mark the arrival of festivals, holidays, lights, music, plays, parties, gifts, and all sorts of merriment. There’s an excitement that fills the air, anticipation for both the known and unknown. Happiness and cheer abound.

Even as you bring good tidings, you also bring a whirlwind of emotions and memories of Decembers of old. You spark thoughts of loved ones lost and loves not yet to be discovered. You can open old wounds while simultaneously healing others.

I hope you’re kind to us all this year, December. The world needs more magic and less sorrow. We need more healing and comfort. We need cups of hot cocoa, warm homes, and love.
