Deep breath, Amazon has now announced the new payment structure for affiliates. Like everyone else, I’m worried, but I don’t feel like it’s the end of the world. It’s going to hurt for sure, but I I’m choosing to look at this differently than just what I’m going to lose or what I won’t be able to gain as easily.
There are a few different thoughts I have on this, so I’m just going to make a list. This isn’t really in any particular order, just some thoughts I had since I found out.
~ This lets me know I’m headed in the right direction with branching out into different income streams and treating them more seriously than before.
~ Amazon isn’t the only fish in the sea. They’re a big fish, but you can have a meal of of several small too. There are many affiliate programs out there to use, some that pay a hefty percentage.
~ Being an affiliate is a great way to earn income, but I need to also be the head of the food chain. I’ve got to create some products, write fiction, and/or find different ways to bring in income that doesn’t come from affiliate earnings.
~ Being successful online isn’t easy, and the game doesn’t stay the same for long. Either I learn to easily adapt to these changes or I just need to find another career. I’m choosing to adapt.
~ I don’t know how this is going to affect me yet, so I don’t think working myself up into a frenzy is going to help anything.
~ Amazon is doing what it takes to make their business successful. They’ve lowered the commission on items that basically sell themselves. I’m sure they’ve also looked at the markups in each category. They have to do what’s best for them, and we have to do what’s best for us.
~ My last thought on this matter is that going forward I will take categories of items into consideration, but I will still promote items in lower commission categories. The good thing about Amazon is that often people buy completely different items than they started looking at through one of your links, and you still get the commission.
This is a blow for a lot of us, but there are great ways to move forward and build a strong business for yourself online. Carve out your space online and continue to work toward your goals, I will be. 🙂
